Whitegate nursery came to us looking to rejuvenate various different areas across their grounds.
The first area we chose to tackle was the main play area, where we decided to introduce features that could make better use of the space provided and offer a chance for the children to learn through play. The first task in freshening up this area was to remove the existing Clamber Stack that had become outdated and slippy. After safely disposing this and surrounding waste material, we moved onto replacing the old artificial grass on top of the tunnel unit. We then went onto installing the fuel station that included some bespoke timber fuel pumps. The team then proceeded to install all of the signs and then create a Buff UniPave Roadway under the fuel station. The next step in rejuvenating this play area was to revive its surfaces which the team accomplished by fitting artificial grass over the already existing Wetpour safety surfacing and refreshing the Tarmac using Black Bitumen Tarmac Paint . All that was left to do was apply the finishing touches by installing the new Thermoplastic road markings followed by the four UniPave speed humps.
The Nursery also required the team to install timber fencing in multiple areas along their grounds including the main nursery play area and the secret garden area, This added up to 56 meters worth of fencing. The secret garden also required there to be 2 bespoke trellis archways which the team installed. The fencing helped to divide the areas and create different themes in each area.
The next task in rejuvenating the play areas was to supply and install a new Niagara water play system whilst safely disposing of their existing outdated water feature. The space surrounding this water play system also needed resurfacing so the team installed new resin bonded Eco mulch to the water area. The Eco Mulch combined with compacted stone sub-base also provides adequate drainage.
Finally, the nursery wanted to create another access route to an otherwise unused area, rather than installing a standard pathway we wanted to incorporate some educational elements whilst maintaining a natural theme, this is why we decided to make it a sensory pathway by designing the path to have sections where we would put in either artificial grass, charcoal blocks, green and brown mulch or buff UniPave surfacing. In order to start this project, we had to excavate the desired location of the pathway and then put in the stairs to connect the slightly elevated part of the pathway. The next step of this project was to introduce the treated timber edges that would outline both the pathway and the individual sections along it. In pursuance of creating a stable, solid base the team next installed a layer of compacted stone, this then meant they were able put all the different sections on top which completed the sensory pathway.
