Rosegrove Nursery approached us with a clear vision: they wanted to enhance their outdoor space with two purpose-built structures that would support their children’s learning and exploration in all weathers. They were looking for practical, durable, and engaging solutions—and that’s where our team at Unique Play stepped in to help bring their ideas to life.

At Unique Play, every project starts with understanding how children use their outdoor space—and our work with Rosegrove Nursery was all about creating practical, well-designed areas that support active learning. To kick things off, we began by preparing the site for the Suited and Booted Shed. This involved excavating a 4.7m x 4.7m area to the correct depth, ensuring a level and secure foundation. We installed 18 metres of robust timber edging to form the perimeter before pouring a solid concrete base. As with all our projects, we prioritised site cleanliness, all excess materials from the excavation were removed via skip, allowing us to keep the site safe and clutter-free throughout.

With the groundwork complete, we installed the 4.5m x 4.5m Suited and Booted Shed—designed specifically to help children transition from indoor to outdoor play. The shed includes three well-placed windows to maximise natural light, making it an inviting and easy-to-use space. A single door offers straightforward access, while the interior provides a designated zone for storing coats, boots, and wet-weather gear. This structure plays a vital role in keeping the rest of the nursery mud-free, supporting year-round outdoor exploration without the mess.

To further support Rosegrove Nursery’s outdoor learning goals, we also designed and installed a Potting Shed—a dedicated space for planting activities and exploring nature up close. The installation began with the excavation of a 3.2m x 2.2m area, carefully dug to the correct depth to create a secure base. We installed 11 metres of timber edging to define the footprint of the shed and poured a concrete base, ensuring it was level, strong, and built to last.

The Potting Shed itself was a bespoke 3m x 2m structure, created to provide a greenhouse-style environment that encourages hands-on gardening experiences. With two single doors for easy access and a layout that welcomes natural light, the space is designed to be both functional and engaging. The open potting area gives children a chance to learn about growing plants, seasonal changes, and sustainable practices in a practical way. It’s more than just a shed—it’s a space that supports curiosity, creativity, and a connection to the natural world.

Working with Rosegrove Nursery on this project was a true highlight for our team. Their passion for creating a meaningful and engaging outdoor experience for the children made the collaboration a joy from start to finish. We loved seeing how our designs fit seamlessly into their vision, and it’s been exciting to witness the positive impact these spaces have had on both the staff and the children. It’s always a pleasure to work with clients who share our commitment to quality and innovation, and we’re grateful for the opportunity to contribute to such a special space.
