Bringing Shade and Style to Dallas Road School with Our Custom Canopy

Here at Unique Play, we specialise in creating tailored outdoor structures that not only enhance the aesthetic of playgrounds but also provide functional and educational benefits. Our project at Dallas Road School is a prime example of how thoughtful design and installation can transform a space while providing a feature that can develop the children's sensory skills.

For this project, we supplied and installed a custom canopy measuring 8.3m x 2.6m, providing the ideal balance of shade and shelter for the students. The sleek green colour of the canopy was carefully selected to create a vibrant and inviting space, while the bespoke perspex roof, featuring a color-projecting leaf print, adds a creative and dynamic touch to the design. As sunlight filters through, the leaf patterns are projected onto the ground and walls of the building, offering an engaging sensory experience for the children. The design wasn’t just focused on aesthetics; we also addressed the practical needs of the school’s outdoor area. To ensure long-lasting functionality, the canopy was fitted with integrated guttering and an underground drainage system that connected directly to the existing water system. This feature effectively manages rainwater, preventing pooling and ensuring that the area remains safe, dry, and enjoyable for children throughout the year.

Additionally, we added a Perspex panel at the end of the canopy to provide wind protection, which is essential in maintaining a comfortable outdoor space during gusty days. The Perspex material we used is not only durable but also includes UV reduction, offering added protection from harmful sun exposure.
