The Breck Primary School approached us with a vision to create an innovative composite classroom that would transform an otherwise unused space.

We began this project by carefully excavating the designated area down to the required depth, which involved using a Excavator to remove topsoil and any debris. This initial step was crucial as it ensured that we had a clean slate to work with. After the excavation was completed, we meticulously prepared a concrete base, which involved leveling the ground and compacting a layer of stone to create a stable sub-base.

To achieve the best results, we utilized a combination of heavy machinery and manual labor, ensuring that every inch of the area was properly dressed. Once the sub-base was compacted and leveled, we installed forms to outline the dimensions of the classroom, paying close attention to the specifications of, 13.6m x 7m, that were specified by The Breck Primary School.

Next, we needed to establish a way to supply electricity to the building. We accomplished this by digging a trench from concrete pad to the school's main building. In this trench, we placed a pipe with a string running through it, extending out of both ends. The pipe was then back-filled with sharp sand. This setup allowed us to run the electrical wiring through the pipe by attaching it to one end of the string and pulling it through from the other end.

Subsequently, we mixed and poured high-quality concrete into the forms, ensuring that it was evenly distributed and vibrated to eliminate any air pockets that could weaken the structure. After allowing the concrete to cure for the appropriate amount of time, we removed the forms to reveal a solid, flat surface that would serve as the foundation for the classroom. This concrete base not only provided a sturdy foundation but also helped to prevent moisture issues and ensure long-term durability for the educational space we were creating.

The next phase of the project involved installing the walls and roof. We began by incorporating insulation for the walls providing superior thermal performance, helping regulate indoor temperatures and improve energy efficiency, minimizing heat loss in winter and keeping interiors cool in summer. After installing the insulated walls, we enhanced the exterior with a full cladding system made of 50mm thick composite material, chosen for its exceptional resilience and low maintenance, ensuring the building could withstand various weather conditions while maintaining an attractive appearance. We also enhanced the interior walls using high-quality timber cladding selected for their durability and sustainability, providing a robust framework that added warmth. Throughout this phase, we adhered to strict safety protocols and quality control measures to ensure every element met our high standards, with our skilled team employing advanced techniques to secure and align each panel.

For the roof installation, we equipped the classroom with a durable and weather-resistant rubber roof, which not only enhances the buildings energy efficiency but also provides excellent protection against the elements.

We installed 3 x Tall Windows and 3 x Bi-fold Doors, greatly enhancing the space's aesthetic appeal and functionality. The tall windows maximize natural light, creating a warm atmosphere while offering stunning views and energy efficiency through double glazing. The Bi-fold Doors seamlessly connect indoor and outdoor spaces, ideal for entertaining or enjoying fresh air. They are durable, secure, and modern, complementing the building's architecture. Together, the windows and doors boost visual appeal and energy efficiency. The installation was precise, ensuring perfect alignment and sealing, transforming the space into a more functional and enjoyable area.

Next, we installed vinyl flooring and a suspended ceiling with integrated infrared ceiling heaters. The ceiling enhances acoustics and ambiance, providing a modern look and easy access to overhead infrastructure like wiring. Panels were expertly installed for safety and aesthetics. The infrared heaters offer efficient heating by directly warming objects and people, ensuring a cozy environment with optimal placement for even heat distribution.

The subsequent feature we added was the vinyl flooring, a choice that was made for its durability, ease of maintenance, and aesthetic appeal. For this classroom the client decided to go with the Frosted Highland Oak option which was carefully selected to complement the overall design of the space, offering a variety of colors and textures that not only enhance the visual aspect but also provide a comfortable surface underfoot. Each plank was carefully laid out, ensuring a seamless fit and alignment, while also taking into consideration the specific layout of the room to maximize both functionality and style.

With the main features of the building completed, we shifted our focus towards finalizing the remaining electrical works necessary to ensure the functionality and comfort of the space. This phase included installing three strategically placed radiators for optimal heating, ten double sockets for accessible appliance use, and 24 Anti Glare LED panel lights for efficient, comfortable illumination.

The School also requested that we establish a convenient access point between our new composite classroom and the existing building next door. To initiate this phase of the project, we made an opening in the adjacent building's side to accommodate a door next to our classroom. Subsequently, we constructed a custom timber archway connecting this new door with the one we had previously installed in anticipation of this. In this design we created for the archway we decided to include a Perspex roof that would cast green leaf patterns when sunlight passed through, adding a sensory element to the walkway.

All our classrooms come as standard with a fire safety package including:

  • 2 x smoke detectors

  • Manual call point

  • Fire alarm panel

  • Both CO2 and foam Extinguishers with signs

  • Zone panel and document box

Lastly we added the finishing touches of a tarmac patio and a logo for the classroom.

We created the bespoke Perspects logo featuring 'The Hub,' prominently placed at the classroom entrance. Inspired by the school logo, this design integrates with the school's branding, reflecting its values and spirit as a symbol of community and collaboration.

We added a beautifully designed tarmac patio, enhancing the outdoor space's appeal and providing a durable area for students to gather. We created this by firstly excavating the area down to the required depth, applying the timber edging detail and lying within a layer of terram construction fabric which would prevent any weeds growing to the surface.  Next, we installed and compacted a layer of stone to form a solid base, onto which we applied our sub-layer of tarmac, followed by the finishing layer.

Our installation at The Breck Primary School stands as a testament to our commitment to creating inspiring and functional learning environments. By integrating modern design elements with practical features, we have not only enhanced the aesthetic appeal of the school but also fostered an atmosphere conducive to learning and collaboration. The feedback from teachers and students alike has been overwhelmingly positive, highlighting the impact of a well-designed space on educational outcomes.

As we continue to innovate and adapt to the evolving needs of educational institutions, we remain dedicated to providing solutions that empower both educators and students. We are proud to have played a role in shaping the future of The Breck Primary School, and we look forward to more opportunities to transform playgrounds into vibrant spaces that inspire creativity and learning.
