How we Created an Exciting Playground Space for Bacup Thorn School

Initially, we undertook the excavation of the designated area to a precise depth of 180mm. This process involved the careful removal and transportation of approximately 80 tonnes of excavated materials from site, calling for the use of our Mechanical Grab to ensure efficiency and safety. Following the excavation, we supplied and installed the aluminium edging details around the area. This edging not only denotes the spaces but also adds a polished look to the overall design. To ensure a solid foundation for the subsequent layers, we supplied and laid Terram Construction Fabric across all excavated sections. This fabric serves as a crucial barrier, preventing the mixing of soil and aggregate while allowing for proper drainage and ensuring no weeds can grow to the surface. Subsequently, we imported and compacted a layer of MOT Type 1 Stone to provide the necessary stability and support for the structures being installed. This stone layer is essential for maintaining the integrity of the ground and ensuring long-lasting performance.

In order to begin the installation of the 'Shiver Me Timbers' play unit, we undertook a meticulous excavation process, creating 32 holes that met the required specifications. This careful preparation involved both digging and the efficient carting away of all waste material from site to ensure a clean and safe working environment. Following this groundwork, we proceeded to supply and install the Shiver Me Timbers unit, which comes with robust steel feet, ensuring stability and safety for years to come. With the legs of this structure firmly positioned in the excavated holes, we proceeded to pour C25 strength concrete into each of the openings. Both units are backed by a 20-year guarantee, reflecting our commitment to quality and the longevity of the play equipment.

We then repeated the process for the Castle themed Clamber Tower Double Deck unit.

Finally, we enhanced the area by completing a Beige & Brown Wetpour Surfacing for the entire area, applied at the required depths for the Play Unit. This surfacing not only provides a safe and cushioned environment for children to play but also adds an aesthetically pleasing element to the space. The combination of beige and brown tones blends harmoniously with the natural surroundings, creating an inviting atmosphere that encourages outdoor play and exploration. Our attention to detail in achieving the specified depths ensures that the play unit meets safety standards while offering a durable surface that will withstand the rigors of active play.
