Refreshing a Large Sports Court in Blackpool

Aspire Academy approached us with the hope of renewing their large sports court which had began to crack after many years of usage and the Great British weather. Tarmac is a great surface to use for a sports court due to its long lifespan and the good grip it provides. The area also has a large embankment next to it meaning water ran down towards the court, leading to puddling after large downpours.
Part one of this project was to create a trench at the bottom of the banking which then allowed us to install Heavy Duty Aquacell Soakaway Crates. These crates create a space hidden underground for the water to gather up and gradually soak into the surface below. We then covered the drainage system with clean gavel and compacted it down. The clean gravel is ideal for this as it allows a lot of water through, however maintains a solid surface to handle any foot traffic.
Stage two of the installation was to resurface the old tarmac with new tarmacadam. This involved planing out any cracks that had developed in the surface so that we had a flat base to work with. Next we imported Type 1 Crusher Run Stone and compacted it down ready for a 50mm thick layer of fresh Tarmac to be laid.
The final part of the project was to install some brand new Thermoplastic Markings allowing the court to be used for multiple sports at once. Aspire Academy wanted Netball courts, which can double up as smaller football pitches and Tennis Courts.
As you can see from the images the area looks brand new, both ourselves and the Academy couldn't be happier with the completed project. The pupils are free to safely use the area again without the worry of a rainy day taking away from the fun!
